Transport antonow An-225 is one of the largest aircraft in history and the largest aircraft used commercially. Only one piece of machine is used. The aircraft was first flown in 1988 and is currently used by Antonov Airlines to transport oversized cargo.
The machine was based on the An-124 Rusłan aircraft by extending its hull by 14.9 m and redesigning the tail section. Double tail tail was to allow flights with Buran attached to the back. Also the wings come from Ruslan, only in the central part a new wider center wing was inserted with two further, identical to the An-124 engines, increasing the span by 15.1 m. The aircraft is powered by a total of six ZMKB Ivchenko-Progress D-18 engines.
The prototype made its first flight on December 21, 1988. On March 22, 1989, during a three-hour flight, it set 106 world records. On June 16, 2004, he made a flight from Prague to Tashkent with the largest commercial load of 247 tons. One complete flying copy was built.
Its maximum takeoff weight is 640 tons – about nine times more than a Boeing 737 or an Airbus A320. Recently, the aircraft underwent modernization and since March this year. is again in use.
